Coaches Corner #15

What a great start to the 2015-16 tournament season! The Flames are 1-1-0 with four of our athletes scoring goals and 3 having scoreless halves (or portions thereof) in goal. Incredible! It was fabulous to be back in the Bascom Center and be able to have Coach Stephen on the sidelines with the team for both games, proving excellent coaching advice and enthusiastic cheering.

In the first game against the Rockets the Flames were off to a slow start - pregame jitters impacting several athletes. Two goals were allowed in the first half but in the second half, adjustments were made, athletes settled in and the Flames got fired up - scoring five goals - 1 each by Matt, Hunter and Alexa and 2 by Josh. Congrats to Alexa for putting in her first goal in Flames' orange! Matt and Alexa also notched two assists in the second half. Tyler was our starting center, playing very well a position that is new for him. Jess, Zach and Matt all contributed to limiting the damage on defense. By the final whistle the Rockets went down in Flames by a score of 5-2. (I have waited an entire year to use that line since this is our first win over the Rockets!)

The Flames really showed their tenacity and skill in the second game against the Shockers. An early goal by the Shockers snuck past the defense but the Flames went on to play 30 minutes of shut down defense. Although unable to capitalize on any scoring opportunities the Flames worked together well as a team to keep the Shockers off the scoreboard for a majority of the game. A big THANK YOU to Josh and George for getting the video put together and posted on the website.

Next practice is 1-4 pm on Sunday November 8. Please come ready to work - we have lots to cover before our next tournament. We head to Berkeley on Saturday November 14 for two games against the Rockets and Bombers starting at 3pm and then we host the Bombers and Flash in Davis on December 6. Those matches will be 12-3 so let's gear up the tournament hosting machine to get ready. As always e-mail or text me if you cannot make a game or practice. E-mail to margonpaul@sbcglobal.net. On the day of a game/practice please TEXT to 530-902-5331.

FLAME ON!
