Coaches Corner #14

I LOVE POWER SOCCER and am very excited to be starting up the 2015-16 tournament season! We are once again registered as a non-conference team. As a non-conference team we still compete with all of the conference and non-conference teams in the area, we are obligated to compete in a minimum of 6 games but we do not have to travel in the summer to compete in a Conference Cup.

We are heading to the Bascom Center in San Jose this Saturday and our games times are 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. Please arrive by 11:30 am. Please let me know ASAP if you do not plan to attend. I have Jessica, Josh, Matt, Hunter, Alexa, Tyler and Zach as currently planning to attend for both games. Please text me at 530-902-5331 if your ability to participate in this weekend's tournament changes.

As always - the goal of competing in tournaments is first and foremost TO HAVE FUN! Winning is not the goal - especially this early in the season. More important is that athletes get playing time, that everyone works with their fellow athletes as a team and that we develop our skills in game situations. Our athletes often find themselves excluded from activities in their daily lives - Power Soccer gives everyone a chance to be INCLUDED and be valued for what they can do - please embrace and accept this.

Support athletes on other teams, keep comments about athletes, coaches and referees POSITIVE, demonstrate good sportspersonship. It is increasingly common in this day and age to feel like it is appropriate to criticize referees and other officials. Please remember that the refs spend their valuable free time training, that they are not paid for their services, that they actually have to pay to travel to tournaments and to register as refs - show them some love this weekend - we can't play without them and they work very hard as volunteers to support our tournaments.

I am very proud to be coaching such an amazing group of athletes and appreciate all the help and support from their families and friends – keep it up – you guys are the BEST! A BIG THANK YOU to Janet for the great job on the jerseys, to George for his work on equipment, to Hal for keeping our finances up to date and for his website management, to Coach Stephen and Coach Paul for their hard work at practices and of course much thanks to Lara for all of her work as the Team Manager to get us to this point in the season! And thanks to everyone for helping straighten out the registration snafus - we got it done - teamwork!!!! FLAME ON!
