After the first tournament I was so very proud of the team - in fact - I said that I couldn't be prouder. Well after the last tournament I learned that I was wrong - I could be prouder - and I am so very proud of this Flames team! The character of the individual is not as apparent when things are going well - it is when adversity strikes that the true character is displayed. It is easy to be generous when you have plenty, it is easy to a good sport when you are winning, it is easy to work hard when success is your instant reward. When the going gets tough - well - that's when you see how it really is.

We had a 0 and 20 deficit this tournament. No goals were scored by Flames players and many goals were scored against our team. What I saw was determination and effort even when things did not go our way. When the chips were down no one gave up. Everyone worked hard, played hard, followed directions and did their best. Everyone scrambled to learn new positions and try new configurations.

We played some great soccer. We had some excellent scoring opportunities. We made some fabulous defensive plays. Everyone had moments when they were a hero, for stopping a breakaway, battling a skilled and crafty opponent, making a great decision that changed the possession, quick thinking, speedy recoveries, taking on a new position, taking a shot, setting up a teammate, and maintaining a good attitude throughout. Thank you all!!! Awesome work!

We have three games next weekend in Berkeley - the Bombers at 10 am - so be there at 9:30 am please. Then back to back afternoon games v. the Shockers (1:45 pm) and the Santa Barbara Rolling Rebels (3 pm). As always please send me a text 530-902-5331 if you cannot attend at all or if you cannot attend any portion of the day. Thanks and Flame On!
