Flames Soccer Club

Margo's Corner

February 26, 2014

Paul and I are excited to start up the Sac Valley Flames Power Soccer Team. I have two years of experience training youth athletes in martial arts and four years of experience coaching snowboard athletes for Davis Senior High. Paul has been a Little League Umpire, a soccer referee and is a certified power soccer ref. We have been a power soccer parents for the past three years and love power soccer! We hope to teach our athletes valuable skills useful both on and off the soccer pitch, keep power soccer a safe and fun place and win some games!

In order to coach the athletes most effectively it would be great to have some additional information. Attached is a short questionnaire asking how to best contact each athlete, what the athlete does when they are not playing power soccer, if they currently have any conflicts that they know will cause them to miss a practice and what they hope to gain from their power soccer experience. We have also recruited some guest coaches who play power soccer to help teach some of the skills. We have a home and away scrimmages planned for this spring season and are looking forward to seeing the team in a competitive setting.

The practice schedule is listed on the website. If you cannot make a practice please e-mail Coach Margo or text to 530-902-5331.

We try to craft the practices to help each athlete work to their skill level and can do a better job if we know who is showing up and who will be absent. Practices are mandatory – we expect everyone to be there every week but also understand that life happens and that may not be possible – please keep us informed!

If you have any issues or concerns regarding any aspect of the game, skills, coaching or coaching decisions we ask that you address your concerns with either myself or Coach Paul. We want to do a good job and provide a quality experience for our athletes and their families. We want to build a competitive program and keep the environment positive for everyone and are open to taking the time necessary to address any concerns. Please try to schedule a time to meet with us or talk on the phone or send an e-mail – sometimes people react poorly in the heat of the moment - so if something is bothering you and it is not an immediate safety issue – take a little time to gather your thoughts and express them directly to us, privately away from the practice and other athletes, so that our coaching time is reserved for all athletes attending practice.

We hope to always be as positive as possible and expect our athletes and their fans to behave positively. Please respect the other athletes – we all have different skills and temperaments – every athlete wants to do well and is trying their best. Please do not disparage the refs, opposing team players or coaches or other fans. The referees take hundreds of hours away from their families and other activates to get training, to increase their skills and to come out to ref matches and scrimmages. They are volunteers. They have no biases and try to make the right call every time. Please take a moment to acknowledge their sacrifice and your appreciation whenever possible.

Practices will be every other Sunday at Harper Junior High School Gym in Davis. Our new start time is 1:30 pm and we will wrap up at 4:30. We look forward to working with each of you to fire up the Sac Valley Flames!
